Loose Lexf
article in the October issue
inspired me to to use spray adhesive to fix leaves from my yard
onto plain platters and dishes. Eye-catching, inventive, unique, and
inexpensive. Thank you
Better Homes and Gardens!

T h e O ctober issue was the most
comforting I’ve seen. I had been
thinking about how I needed to
preserve our pie pumpkins, and
there was “Jack of All Trades” with
recipes for Pumpkin Puree and
Spiced Pumpkin Butter. Perfect
timing! I’m ready to slow down and
enjoy comfort foods.

It ’s as if you
created the
October issue just
for me. I loved the
articles about
maximizing
freezer space,
recycling, and fall garden colors.
“Take It Off Together” also struck a
chord. My husband and I have lost
almost 100 pounds together this year.

A s an interior designer, I wouldn’t
immediately think of orange as a
favorite color. But the “Cozy Orange”
article in October made me look back
at two of my favorite spaces—the
kitchen in our first house and a
family room—and realize that I used
variations of the color very success-
fully. Orange is truly a warm and
inviting color. Thanks for the article.

I am an African-American woman
and faithful reader. I practically
jumped up and down to see a
beautiful family that looked like
mine in September’s “Making It
Personal.” The house was simple
and decorated so well.

the “In the Pink”

and the warning to
check for other
signs than the pea-shape lump we all
learned to feel for. Anything that
feels strange or doesn’t look right
needs to be checked out by your
doctor. Don’t wait! Early diagnosis
and treatment is the best course. I
can attest to that. I am a survivor.

In Michigan, there are m any
apple orchards and cider mills
to visit this tim e of year. The
cider made after the first frost
is always the best and sweetest,
and we look forward to that.
W e buy apples for the fam ily
favorite, Upside-down Pecan-
Apple Pie, and applesauce.

Halloween is m y family's
favorite. W ith a little red food
coloring and sculpting, I take the
traditional crispy-rice cereal
treat to a new level with my
fam ous “bone” cookies. All ages
love crunching into these sweet
and scary treats.

Here in the Finger Lakes region,
wine tastings are a sure bet this
tim e of year. Along the pictur-
esque drive, we stop at a roadside
stand for a grape pie or two.
